3. Signs of Wear

A rounded or blunted cutting edge and small chips along the land are the first visible signs a punch needs attention.
4. Inspect

Check the cutting edge under a loupe or with precision calipers before deciding how much material needs to come off.

Knowing the land, the relief, and the cutting edge by name makes it easier to describe exactly what's worn and what a regrind needs to restore.

Deburr and clean the punch by hand before it goes anywhere near the wheel — debris on the surface throws off both the grind and the inspection after it.
